A prominent citizen in Clarke County is Gilford Dabbs, and it is hard to find anyone who is unfamiliar with his vibrant smile and overall air of joy and honesty. These great qualities are just a few of the reasons that Gilford has been selected to be the Grand Marshal of this year’s Christmas parade in Quitman.
Gilford has always had a strong love for his community, and he has made sure to participate and serve as much as he could to help those around him.
“In the mid 1970s, he was the president of the Clarke County Chamber of Commerce and also the president of the local Country Club,” stated Ruth Dabbs, his wife.
One of the things that Gilford is most well-known for is his position as an attorney. He started out working in the Law Firm of Riddell and Dabbs from 1971-1982 and then worked in the Lawfirm of Dabbs and Donnell from 1982-1989. He then chose to work solo and served in important positions in the county as attorney.
“For years, he served as the Board Attorney for the county board of supervisors,” said Ruth. “He also served in several county municipalities as their attorney.”
In 2005, Gilford was named as the Clarke County Chamber Business of the Month.
Although Gilford has always taken great pride in his work, he also has other things that he truly loves. He is also a strong Christian who enjoys serving in his church.
“Still active in First Baptist Church, he has served as deacon and chairman of the board for several years,” explained Ruth. “He was also a Sunday School teacher and served in various other ministries of the church.”
Gilford loves his family and has made sure to spendtime with them and share his love of God with them as much as his can.
