Late Sunday night, December 27, a fatal accident occurred on Highway 45 around Country Road 111.
Robert Wright from Foley, Alabama, was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer headed south when he lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected it, causing the vehicle to start flipping. The vehicle then crossed Highway 45 before coming to a stop upside down on an embankment.
Cody Wright, a passenger in the vehicle, received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The driver and two small children, a one-year-old and a three-year-old, were transported to a hospital for injury evaluation.
The next of kin was notified for the fatality, and unknown charges could be pending on the driver once the investigation is complete. At this time, the wreck is still under investigation with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
State troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department, Quitman and Stonewall Fire and Rescue, the Clarke County Coroner, Paratech EMS, and Scott’s Wrecker Service all responded to the scene.
Update from the family:
The family was heading home after visiting family for Christmas in Clarke County, Mississippi. Sadly, Cody passed away in a car crash after his vehicle was overturned; his brother Robert is in the hospital with a broken neck and back. The family has created a GoFundMe account to help the family with funeral arrangements and other expenses.
"Cody just turned 21 years old. He was the sweetest kindest soul you could ever meet," says his cousin Amanda West on the GoFundMe page.
