The Nation's Weather for Friday, June 16, 2023
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
As the latest dip in the jet stream pushes on, a new round
of showers and locally gusty thunderstorms will affect the
Northeast today. In the wake of the rain, sunshine may be
dimmed and blocked by smoke over parts of the Midwest. The
most likely zone for severe thunderstorms will extend from
parts of Kansas and Oklahoma to northern Florida. Within
this area, one or more batches of intense, fast-moving and
long-reaching thunderstorms are possible known as derechos.
Regardless, thunderstorms will bring the likelihood of high
winds, large hail and flash flooding with the potential for
a few tornadoes. Another zone of showers and embedded
thunderstorms will extend from southern Nevada to the
Dakotas. Much of the deserts, Pacific Coast states and the
interior Northwest will be dry.
