NATIONAL SUMMARY
A system brewing off the Southeast Atlantic coast, which is
expected to become Tropical Storm Ophelia, will make
landfall along the North Carolina coast early tomorrow
morning. Heavy, flooding rainfall from this system will
spread from the Carolinas northward through portions of the
mid-Atlantic and into southern New England throughout the
day. Gusty winds are also expected to impact near-coastal
areas, with the risk for isolated tornadoes, minor coastal
flooding and beach erosion also anticipated. Elsewhere, a
potent storm system will spawn severe thunderstorms from the
eastern Dakotas into the South Central states, with damaging
winds, hail and even isolated tornadoes possible. The bulk
of the Midwest, Southeast and West will be dry, with rain
for portions of the Pacific Northwest.
