No. 5 Jones College pounded out 39 hits and scored 35 runs over two days at the Coastal Alabama Sun Chief Classic to finish a perfect 4-0 against some of the best competition in NJCAA Division I softball.
Jones defeated No. 11 Pensacola State (Florida),7-4; No. 5 Wallace State-Hanceville (Alabama), 7-1; Southern Union State (Alabama), 8-5; and Coastal Alabama-East, 13-4.
The Bobcats improved to 6-2 and return to action next Tuesday at Shelton State (Alabama).
Nia Luckett (Philadelphia) was 8-for-12 in the leadoff spot with nine runs scored, a home run, five RBIs and three stolen bases to pace the offense.
Jones hit five home runs over the four games from Lauren Lindsey (Mobile, Alabama), Aaliyah Dixon (Hillcrest Christian), Kathryn Smith (Luling, Louisiana) and Carly Lewis (Jackson Prep).
In the circle, Holly Craft (Raleigh) had a win and a save in 9.1 innings pitched, allowing five hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts. Hanna Zeitz (Clinton Christian Academy) was 2-0 with nine strikeouts over 12 innings.
