Berry Ray Smith, 86, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away January 12, 2022. He was born on August 12, 1935, to Buford and Lettie (Collins) Smith in Clarke County, MS.
Ray was a lifelong resident of Clarke County who after serving four years in the Air Force, returned back to Clarke County and worked in the timber industry until he retired. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Quitman and the Quitman Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Terral Masonic Lodge and a member of The Hamassa Temple.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Graham Smith; daughter, Deborah Smith-Howell and her husband, Craig of Omaha, Nebraska; son, Berry R. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Joette Majure Smith of Quitman; grandchildren, Graham Smith (Elizabeth), Slater Smith (Arlette), Virgina Boles (Tyler); great-grandchildren, Majure Smith, Thomas A. Smith, Everly Smith, and Luna Ray Boles; sister, Jeanette Smith, Geneva Dickey (Jim); and sister-in-law, Marie Smith.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Lettie Mae Smith; and brother, Reece Smith.
Graveside services will be held at Hopewell Church Cemetery in the Hopewell Community of Quitman, MS, Saturday, January 15, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Pam Randall and Rev. Tyler Boles officiating.
Pallbearers will be Graham Smith, Slater Smith, Francis Clark, Scott Daniels, Scott Sanchez and Glen Reynuard.
