Eva Carolyn Vaughan Holiman, 82, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2022, in Quitman, MS. Carolyn was born on December 2, 1939, in the Harmony Community in Clarke County to William Thomas and Lorayne (Jordan) Vaughan.
She was an accomplished student who not only loved learning but loved teaching. She felt her destiny in life was to teach. She earned both her Bachelors degree and her Masters degree from Delta State University, as well as an ESL Certification from Berry College.
She met her husband, Harold O'Bannon Holiman while attending Mississippi State University and during their college years they both began a life-long love of flying.
Carolyn and Harold both served in the Civil Air Patrol for 25 years in the Mississippi Delta, Greenville, MS, before relocating to North, GA. After moving to Quitman, Carolyn became Captain commander of the G. V. "Sonny" Montgomery Squadron 102 in Meridian, MS.
Carolyn loved adventure and travel, visiting many places around the globe including much of Europe, Mexico, The Caribbean, Central America, and Canada.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Andrea Holiman Gaskins; three grandchildren, Jane G. (Keith) Meigs, Melissa Gaskins, Wilson Gaskins; two great grandchildren, Bennett and Hadley, all of Huntsville, AL; and her aunt, Margie Martin of Mobile, AL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas and Lorayne Vaughan; husband, Harold O'Bannon Holiman; and her sister, Diane Vaughn Minton.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all of her wonderful friends and neighbors on Betty Circle, as well as a special thank you to her faithful friend and caretaker, Barbara.
Visitation was held Wednesday, October 26, 2022, after 1:30 p.m. at McGowan's Chapel Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 26, 2:00 p.m. at the McGowan's Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Patty Robinson, officiating.
Burial took place in the McGowan's Chapel Cemetery.
