Funeral services for James Daniel Cook will be held Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in Meridian, MS.
Mr. Cook, 68, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS.
Mr. Cook was a veteran of the United States Army in which he enrolled in June 1969. He served in the 25th Infantry in a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. Upon returning to the states, Mr. Cook was stationed at Colorado Springs, CO, until 1972, and then he returned to his hometown of Meridian. Mr. Cook relocated to Quitman, MS, in 1977. Mr. Cook was the Director of Respiratory Therapy at H.C. Watkins Hospital, where he worked alongside many friends that he considered family, for a tenure of 17 years. He retired from the 186 Magnolia Militia Unit, Air National Guard Base in Meridian, in the mid-80s. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quitman. He was also Alumni of Quitman/Meridian’s Jaycees Chapter, Meridian High School (Class of 67) and Meridian Community College.
He is survived by his son, David Cook, Hattiesburg; daughter, Amy Moody (Dan) of Meridian; grandchildren, Baleigh Moody, Andrew Cook, Caroline Cook and Emily Cook; sister, Georgia A. Gillard; nephew, Ron Cook (Felisa); niece, Sharon Cook; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan W. Cook and Audie M. Cook; and brother, Donald R. Cook.
Burial with Military Honors was held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at MS Veterans Cemetery in Newton, MS.
