John Roy Moore Sr.

John Roy Moore Sr., 92, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on August 15, 2019, at Anderson's Hospital.

He was born on March 19, 1927, to William and Flora (Pruitt) Moore in Stonewall, MS.

He was a member of Montrose Baptist Church.  He retired from U.S. Army and served in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart.

John Roy is survived by his wife, Dorothy Maxine Moore; sons, John Roy Moore, Jr., Mark Dewayne Moore and Edward Owen "Sandy" Moore; six grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; special grandson, Josh Beckman and special great nephew, Tyler McMahan. 

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Sue Moore Lewis; grandson, Jason Lewis; parents, William Owen and Flora Fane Moore; brothers, William "Billy" Moore, Mark Dewayne Moore and Jackie Daniel Moore; and sisters, Houma Moore Watkins, Mirium Moore Riley and Edris Moore Ivy.

Visitation was held Monday, August 19, 2019, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Mont Rose Baptist Church, Quitman, Mississippi.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 19, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at the Mont Rose Baptist Church, with Rev. Matthew Johnson officiating.

Burial took place in the Mont Rose Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Josh Beckman, Lance Thompson, Alton Beckman, Eddie Herrington, Josh Miller, and Kit Chancellor.  Honorary Pallbearers will Woody Jones, Martin Moore, Fred Moore and Timothy Thompson.
