Linda Gayle McCallister of Bellaire, Texas, passed away on September 19, 2023.
She was born July 22, 1945, to T.J. and Eunice Ivy in Quitman, Mississippi. Linda graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Nursing in 1967 and came to Houston where she began her career at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, retiring in 2013. In Houston, she also found the love of her life, John Masterson McCallister, and they married in 1969.
She was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2016; by her brother, Rodney; her mother-in-law, Beth McCallister; and her sister-in-law, Suzan Deaton.
She is survived by her son, John Dailey McCallister of Breckenridge, CO; by sisters-in-law Jane Kronke of Austin, TX, Sally Lewis of Corpus Christi, TX, Kay Ivy, of Quitman, MS; brother-in-law Charles Deaton and wife, Diane, of Houston, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
Linda was a Life Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and enjoyed her work on the School Art Committee. She was a member of, and an usher, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in West University Place. She was a long-time member of the Houston Junior Forum, where she worked in the Resale Shop. Linda enjoyed traveling with family, especially trips to Galveston and occasional Gulf cruises. She also liked feeding the birds and squirrels in her backyard and did all she could to keep them fat and happy.
