A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mary Frances Young, 84, of Camden, SC will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Irmo Church of God, 10215 Broad River Road, Irmo, SC 29063. Rev. Henry Chavis, Pastor Amber Floyd, and Bishop Randy Caulder will officiate. A private family burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mary Frances Young, a devoted child of God and prayer warrior, was called home on July 29, 2016, at the home of her grandson, Mark Brazell, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 7, 1931, in Quitman, MS. She made her home in Columbia, SC in 1961 in the Eau Claire community. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, who truly enjoyed her family and friends, and who never met a stranger.
She is survived by her children, Shirley (Lanny) Brazell, Laura (Scotty) Wright, Larry Johnson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Michelle Brazell (Amber, Jonathon, Lauren), Jake Johnson (Mandy (Kayden), Codie, Trevor, Zachary), Mark (Christy) Brazell (Corey, Brooke), Amanda (Robert) Quinn ( Ashleigh, Hailee, Madison), Jesse Johnson, Josh (April) Minchew (Brayden, River), Bryson Minchew, David (Mandie) Johnson (Paul, Jordan, Briana, Adylyn), Matt Wright, Michael (Melissa) Wright (Dylan).
Mary was predeceased by her husband, J.P. Young; daughter, Donna Frances Johnson; son, Jimmy Phillip Young; grandson, Jeremy Minchew; brother James B. Menasco; sister, Nelda J. Beckman; parents, J.B. “Fox” and Etta Mae Menasco; and Pearl and Jess Young.
Mary was retired from the State of South Carolina DSS Department/Foster Care Division. She also worked at Stone Manufacturing Hosiery Mill in her younger years. She played the piano from the age of 10 to 70, starting at Pleasant Ridge P.H. Church in the Harmony Community of Quitman, MS. She also played the piano at Ridgewood Avenue P.H. Church in Columbia, SC, and First P.H. Church at Fairfield Road and Broad River Road in Columbia, SC. Mark (Christy), Corey, and Brooke lovingly cared for Mamaw the last 6 ½ years of her life, for which we are all so grateful.
Mary taught Sunday School and created/formed many musical groups and programs for the church. She always had music in her home, and loved to sew and cook, travel, and make new friends everywhere she went. She was a member of Edgewood P.H. Church in Columbia, SC.
