Mary Juanita Williams Buchanan, of Quitman passed away on May 30, 2020, at Anderson's Hospital in Meridian, MS. She had been a resident of Aldersgate Senior Living for the past three years.
Juanita, 93, was a Christian, retired teacher, and longtime member and pianist of First Baptist Church of Quitman.
A Tennessee native, she moved to Quitman after graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi.
For many years, she taught piano in the Quitman schools and at her residence.
After her children were grown, she returned to college, receiving an education degree from Mississippi State University. Until her retirement, she taught reading and special education in the Quitman schools.
In her retirement, Juanita enjoyed traveling, music and spending time with her dear friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Buchanan; and an infant son, Thomas Jackson Buchanan, Jr.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Sara Buchanan of Jackson; her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Billy Dabbs of Hattiesburg; her granddaughter and husband, Rachel and Josh Jussely; and her great grandchildren, Hatten, Dabbs, and Parker Jussely, all of Hattiesburg.
In addition, she is survived by her loving extended family Sims Garrett, of Louisville; Katie Vineyard and husband, Weldon; and their children, Weldon, Ellie, and Waldon Vineyard, of Jackson; and nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.
A private graveside service was held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, at the Odd Fellows Cemetery with Dr. Gene Neal officiating.
Burial took place in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
