R. L. Smith, 77, of Quitman, passed away on October 25, 2016 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS.
He was born on January 3, 1939 to Tillman and Mildred (Williams) Smith in Clarke County, MS.
His favorite past time was farming, gardening and blue grass music.
R. L. is survived by his wife, Latriece Smith; sons, Troy (Michell) Smith and Trent (Betsey) Smith; daughter, Alecia (Tommy) Scott; brothers, Vernon Ray Smith, Jimmy Smith, and Lynn Smith; sisters, Audrey Jones and Nancy Mayo; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tillman and Mildred Smith and brothers, Bobby Joe Smith and Little Bud Smith.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 27, 2016, 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Wright's Funeral Home, Quitman, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016, 11:00 am at the Rolling Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Terry Irby, Rev. Ronnie Cooper, and Rev. Joe Gullick officiating.
Burial will take place in the Rolling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 10:00 a.m., Friday for visitation.
Pallbearers will be Lynn Smith, Wylie Williams, Chris Smith, Tommy Scott, Trent Smith and Troy Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Vernon Ray Smith, Jimmy Smith, Jerry Griffin, John Gary Riley, Will Evans and members of Rolling Creek Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
