Raymond Lavon Martin, 86, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on June 25, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.
He was born on December 19, 1936, to Clifton Lee Martin and Alma Lee Buckalew Martin in Stonewall, MS.
Mr. Martin served his country for 20 years in the United States Navy. After retiring in 1975, he returned to Quitman with his family. He worked for Meridian Machine Works for a number of years before opening his own machine shop serving people in Clarke and surrounding counties. A devout Christian his whole life, he earned a degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and pastored at Sandy Haven Missionary Baptist Church until failing health caused him to retire.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Nora Martin; five children, Randall (Cindy) Martin, Greg (Jean) Martin, Leslie Clay, Lisa (Tony) Furline, Rayna (Todd) Burkis; 23 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ouida Chancellor, Clovis Chancellor, Joyce Waters, Gay (Billy Joe) Tew, Veda Faye (Dick) Massey and Gail Pritchett; and sister-in-law, Virginia Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Raymond Lee Martin; brothers, Clifton Lamar Martin and Mack Martin; and sisters, Myrtle Martin and Mildred Rasberry.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2023, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Wright's Funeral Home, Quitman, Mississippi, and Thursday, June 29, 2023, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Rolling Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Rolling Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Coats and Rev. Bernice Fleming officiating.
Burial will take place in the Rolling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons: Dwayne Furline, Christopher Furline, Cory Furline, Joshua Burkis, Phillip Martin, Nathan Burkis, Austin Burkis, Garrett Driskill, Terry Furline, Daniel Martin, Jonathan Burkis, Bradley Martin and Paul Martin
