Sally Ann Gudmundson Bishop, 58, of Browns Summit, NC, went home to be with the Lord on December 5, 2020, after a year-long battle with cancer.
Sally was born in Tyler, MN, on September 23, 1962, to Arnie and Rose Gudmundson. She grew up in Quitman, MS, with her mother, Rose, and her step-father, Bill Volking.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Rose Mary Volking; father, Arnie Gudmundson; step-father, William Volking; brothers, Ricky and Craig; and sisters, Valerie and Susan.
Sally proudly served in the US Air Force for 24 years from February 1981 to May 2004, retiring Senior Master Sergeant (E-8) as superintendent, Medical Services Squadron, Kadena Air Base, Japan. Upon retirement, Sally cared for her boys, Josh and Jake, and was a full-time medical coding student in Denver, CO. In 2006, she was hired as Sexual Assault Coordinator at Buckley Air Force Base entering into a new career as a Civil Servant. Shortly thereafter, she and Wayne and the boys moved to their final base in Wichita Falls, TX, where she was hired at the Civilian Personnel office. In 2016, Sally joined her husband in North Carolina and began serving at the Department of Veterans Affairs where she was currently working.
Sally had an extreme love for all animals, leaving behind her current pets: Bailey, Shadow, and Angel. She loved traveling and pulling those one-armed bandits, visiting family, and reading. And of course, she had a passion for politics. She loved being a mom, spending time with her boys, taking them on adventures, and watching them play sports. She rarely missed an opportunity to see them compete. Sally was simply an amazing, selfless and humble soul who was loved and adored by so many.
Sally is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Bishop, of 33 and a half years; sons, Joshua and Jake Bishop; sisters, Sandy (David) Burnett, Lisa (Duane) Glenn, and Mary (Kippy) Smith; brother, Danny Cano; in-laws Frank and Camille Bishop and Jenni (Matt) Fields; multiple nieces and nephews; and grand niece and nephew.
