Sybil Blair Johnson was born January 11, 1920, in Shubuta, MS, to William Earl Blair and Ruby Hays Blair. After Sybil’s mother died from complications during childbirth, she was maternally nurtured and raised by her loving second mother, Ada Crosby Blair.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 68 years, Richard (Dick) Johnson, her brother, Warren Blair; and her sister, Elizabeth Blair. She is survived by her son, Richard “Rick” (Donna) Johnson; daughter, Ann (Ray) Cannon; granddaughter, Julie (Steve) Cox; grandson, Nicholas Clark Cannon; brothers, Joe (Faye) Blair, Jim (June) Blair; along with several nieces and nephews.
Sybil graduated in 1937 from Quitman High School in Quitman, MS, and from Mississippi University for Women in 1941. After graduating from college, she moved to Knoxville to work at the Tennessee Valley Authority where she was employed until her husband, Dick returned home from WWII. She was a member of Fountain City Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Fountain City Study Club. She enjoyed dreading, cooking and playing bridge.
A special thanks is given to Faye Maloney, Lois Wister, Dixie Hall, and Ron French for all their wonderful care, love and service.
