Van Downey Fleming, 83, of Shubuta, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, following a tragic accident earlier that afternoon.
He was born May 9, 1936, in Clarke County, Mississippi to Austin J. Fleming and Dorothy Downey Fleming.
Van was blessed with a large and loving family. Survivors include his son, Richard Michael Fleming and wife, Dorothy Mary Fleming of Temescal Valley, CA; daughter, Rhonda Kay Fleming of Shubuta, MS; sister, Dora Dean Fleming Edwards of Dubberly, LA; sister, Jimmie Dale Kennedy and husband James of Harmony, MS; brother, Mac A. Fleming and wife Phyllis of Sterling Heights, MI; brother, Danny Baker Fleming and wife Louise of Quitman, MS; brother, Larry J. Fleming and wife Barbara of Ft. Worth TX; grandchildren, Jennifer Camille Lazala and husband Lyle, Brian Richard Fleming and wife Briana Elizabeth Querin Fleming, Teresa Elizabeth Fleming, Stephanie Anne Fleming and husband Pranay Kumar; great grandchildren Owen Michael Fleming, Blake Jeffery Fleming and Austin Van Fleming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Dorothy Fleming; his wife, Ruth Elizabeth Dew Fleming; one sister; and five brothers.
Mr. Fleming was a retired iron worker and retired Clarke County public works.
A memorial service will be held at Clarkco State Park on October 19, at 2 p.m. in conjunction with a prescheduled Fleming Family Reunion. Private grave side services to follow on Sunday, October 20, in Harmony, Ms.
