After their near defeat at Kemper County, the Panthers set off last week on their journey to Heidelberg to face off against the Oilers. This game, however, was not the Panthers’ night.
As the night began, Caleb Johnson, Brytyavis Dear, Semaj McKenzie, and Ferlin Ivy were selected as the captains of the game and witnessed how the game would start.
Starting off in the first quarter of the game, the Oilers kicked off the game with a punt recovered by Micah Moffett. Moffett ran the ball back to the 50. After fierce opposition from the Oilers’ defensive team, Matthew McGrew was left with no choice but to punt the ball down to the Oilers’ 13-yard line. Having gained possession of the ball, the Oilers wasted no time running the ball to the Panthers’ end zone for an Oilers’ touchdown. The Oilers attempted a two point conversion, but they weren't the only team with a strong defensive side. The Panthers managed to stop the two point conversion, leaving the Oilers with only six points to lead the game.
The Oilers kicked off after the touchdown to Brenton McKenzie, who ran the ball to the Panthers’ 38-yard line. A pass in the next play to Shunzarius Dear allowed Dear to take the ball back to the 50-yard line. The next play was something out of a cartoon with a fumble from both sides that occurred multiple times in a row. The fumbles from both sides pushed the Panthers to the Oilers’ 30-yard line, but luck was not on their side as the Oilers claimed possession of the ball, and in the next play, the Oilers pushed the ball back to the Panthers’ endzone for another touchdown. The Oilers followed up the touchdown with a successful two point conversion. The Oilers led 14 - 0 and concluded the first quarter of the game.
In the second quarter of the game, the Oilers kicked the ball to the Panthers’ 20-yard line. Brenton McKenzie pushed the ball to the Panthers’ 38-yard line, where the Panthers then lost the ball to the Oilers. Like clockwork, the Oilers came around and delivered another devastating touchdown against the Panthers. The attempted two point conversion was unsuccessful. The score was Oilers 20 - Panthers 0.
The Oilers kicked the ball back to the Panthers’ 20-yard line. Bryce Gavin pushed the ball up the field and into Oilers’ territory at the 40. Shunzarius Dear pushed the ball to the Oilers’ 5-yard line. A host of Panthers delivered what would be the only touchdown the Panthers were able to score, and Ashtun Gavin made sure that the PAT was good, bringing the score to Oilers 20 - Panthers 7.
At the end of the second quarter, the Oilers managed to score a touchdown and followed it up with a successful two point conversion. At the end of the second quarter, the score was Oilers 28 - Panthers 7.
The final two quarters of the game ended with Oilers scoring twice, with only one successful touchdown in the third quarter and one touchdown in the final quarter of the game. The attempted two point conversion at the end of the game was no good and marked the end of the game with a final score of Oilers 48 - Panthers 7.
This Friday, September 12, the Panthers are coming home for their next game against the Newton Tigers! The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
