Before we begin this story, I’d like to apologize to the readers at home. The first round of playoffs was not included in last week's paper due to a medical emergency, but the article is available to read on our website: www.clarkecountytrib.com.
After winning against the McComb Tigers, the Panthers advanced to the second round of playoffs to play against the Moss Point Tigers at Panther stadium. The chosen team captains for the game were #19 KeShawn McDonald, #66 Mason Turner, #16 J’lon McCoy, and #21 Markerius Harrison. The Panthers would be receiving the kick at the beginning of the first quarter of the game. The Tigers kicked off with a punt to the Panthers’ 46 yard line with #11 Braylon Peters on the return. Both teams ran plays that resulted in each team punting back and forth from each other’s side of the field. The First Quarter of the game ended with an interception from #41 Sophomore Linebacker, Jeremiah Harris on the Panthers’ 30 yard line and earned a first down. #5, Akylin Dear, ran the ball to the Panther 47 and earned a first down. #3, Braylon Peters, ran the ball to the Tigers’ 12 yardline. Dear ran the ball to the Tiger 1 before landing a touchdown for the Panthers. After an unsuccessful PAT, the score was Panthers 6 - Tigers 0 at the end of the Second Quarter.
In honor of the Veterans who’ve served our country in one of the many branches of the United States Military, the Quitman High School Big Blue Crew played “My Country Tis of Thee” as Veteran spectators of the game joined the Veterans on the Field to wave the American flag.
The game continued into the Third Quarter of the game where the #2 Jias Davis, punted the ball to the Tigers’ 37 yard line. The Panthers pushed the Tigers back to the Tigers’ 46 yard line where the ball was fumbled and #13 Sophomore Defensive back, Demondrae Stribling recovered the ball for the Panthers. Peters on the carry earned a first down on the Tiger 39. Peters then passed the ball to #20 Freshman Wide Receiver, Shunzarius Dear for a touchdown for the Panthers. The score was Panthers 12 - Tigers 0 after the PAT was called no good. Davis punted the ball to the Tigers’ 38 yard line. The Panthers pushed the Tigers back just enough for the Tigers to punt the ball. The ball was caught by Peters, who returned the ball to the Panthers’ 39 yard line. Jaliel Cameron ran the ball to the Tigers’ 14 and earned a first down. Cameron on the carry ran the ball to the Tigers’ end zone and scored a Touchdown for the Panthers. Davis’s PAT was good and the score increased to Panthers 19 - Tigers 0. Davis kicked to the Tigers’ 45 yard line where the the ball was fumbled and recovered by #53 Sophomore Defensive Lineman, Savion Sholes. Peters pushed the ball to the Tiger 32 yard line. Cameron pushed the ball to the Tigers’ end zone and the PAT was no good. The Score was Panthers 26 - Tigers 0. Davis punted the ball to the Tigers’ 45. The Tigers pushed to the Panthers’ end zone and scored a touchdown. The Tigers’ PAT was successful and made the score Panthers 26 - Tigers 7. The Tigers punted the ball to the Panthers’ 40 yardline. Cameron, on the carry for the Panthers, ran the ball an incredible distance of 60 yards to the Tigers’ end zone and scored a touchdown for the Panthers. The PAT from Davis was successful and the final score of the Third Quarter was Panthers’ 33 - Tigers 7. The Final Quarter of the game saw the Tigers being pushed back by the Panthers’ defensive line to the Tigers’ 15. Akylin Dear ran the ball into the end zone for the final Touchdown for the Panthers. The PAT was no good. The final touchdown of the game was scored by the Tigers, but their PAT was also not successful. The Final Score of the game was Panthers 39 - Tigers 13. As the Panthers clutch on to the victory of the game, the Panthers will advance to the third round of playoffs. The third round of playoffs will be played at Mendenhall as the Panthers face off against the Tigers this Friday at 7 p.m.
