“With our world being so crazy and unfamiliar as it is right now, it is so important to focus on the things that still bring us joy,” advised Brittany Farris. “Whether it’s the birth of a new baby or just hearing your favorite song on the radio, we can still find the good in this life no matter how bad things may seem.”
Brittany Farris works hard to find the good in life each day. Most of the good things she focuses on involves her family.
“I am a Quitman native but currently reside in Enterprise with my husband, Kyle,” stated Brittany. “Together, we have four children: Kynsleigh, Dacey, Jax, Everly, and one on the way. My favorite thing to do is be a mom.”
She loves being able to spend time with her family. In fact, spending time with her family is one of her favorite things to do when she has any free time.
“In my spare time, I love just hanging out with my kids,” said Brittany. “We live in the country and have a small goat farm that keeps us busy and gives our children plenty of places to roam. I also enjoy knitting and sewing.”
Having her family is what has inspired her to do her current career. She had such unique experiences with each of her children that she realized her true passion: birth work.
“I offer childbirth education courses to local families. I also offer free doula and childbirth education to teenage mothers,” informed Brittany. “I am a birth doula, certified childbirth educator, and certified placenta encapsulator.”
She is very dedicated to her career and loves to be able to help those around her. She does more than just help mothers have babies. She also provides care, support, and information that the mother needs. Although she has had to make adjustments to various things since the pandemic started, Brittany still does everything she can to offer her patients and families the best care that she can give them.
“As a doula I provide physical, emotional, and informational support to families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I love to serve local families during such a special time and strive to give them the tools to have positive and empowering birth experiences,” explained Brittany. “I believe now more than ever expecting families need adequate support and education to navigate birth and postpartum. COVID has changed the way we do everything, but it doesn’t have to change the fact that families still deserve respectful care and positive experiences during the birth of their babies.”
She views her job as a doula as a beautiful thing. In fact, her job allows her to see the good that is still in the world since she is able to watch families come together and grow.
“The best part of my job is getting a front row seat to watch people become parents,” expressed Brittany. “There is nothing more beautiful than witnessing those first moments after a baby is born. I also support parents during the postpartum phase after birth as they transition into their new roles, so getting to be around newborn babies is a plus too!”
Although she does love her job, there are some things about it that can be hard.
“The hardest part of my job is being away from my own family—sometimes days at a time,” stated Brittany. “Thankfully, my husband is so supportive of my work and holds everything down while I’m at a birth.”
While she is able to coach and help parents through the process of adding a little one in the family, Brittany and her family are also learning to navigate new waters. She has handled the challenge that has come to her family very well and has found out just how strong she really is.
“I am also a ‘heart mom.’ At the beginning of last year, we found out that our four-year-old had a heart defect that would require open heart surgery to correct. While the world was changing due to COVID, we prepared to hand our little girl over to a team of surgeons and literally put her life in their hands,” explained Brittany. “This journey of having a child with a heart defect, surgery, and recovery has shown our family the amazing support that comes with living in a small town. We are so thankful to Clarke County for all the prayers and love our daughter was given and continues to get as we go through this heart journey. There are still many unknowns our sweet girl must face, and we are always appreciative of any thoughts and prayers you can give for Everly’s special heart."
Brittany will continue to face any challenges that lay ahead of her while still being able to go and spread joy and kindness to each of the families she helps as a doula. Her warm smile and encouraging words will continue to brighten the day of everyone she meets.
