How many of us really watch the words that come out of our mouths? If we do watch our words, it is probably to make sure we don’t “cuss” because that is a sin. But do we watch words like “I can, I can’t, I should, I should not, That just kills me, etc.” that we say to ourselves and to other people. Our words are generated by our minds and our minds are connected to our bodies. What we speak becomes what we are and what we do.
Some years ago, I picked up a book by Bernie Ward titled Think Yourself Well. One of the chapters is on prayer as the oldest mind power of all. Prayer works well for two reasons. It uses the power of words in the mind and it taps into our spiritual part of self. The author quoted a famous pastor as saying “in healing, go first to God and then to man as God directs.” He also gave many examples of prayer and positive words to self as major components of physical or mental healing.
How do we consciously change the power of our words to work for us when they have worked against us for so long from those habitual negatives like I can’t or That just kills me? It is much like getting dirt our of the bottom of a glass. Trying to dig it out or scrape it out is harder than just filling the glass with water and letting the dirt rise to the top to be taken out. If we start to say positive words on purpose and fill our minds with those, the negative words can be pushed out. This is easier than policing what we say.
We can help our minds to gather these positive words by what we read, see, hear, etc. The saying really does work of “garbage in -garbage out.”
