A program-record seven Jones College softball players have signed with senior colleges.
Outfielder Makynlie Jones is going to Northwestern State, infielder Meredith Fontenot is headed to Spring Hill College, infielder Makayla Lindsey has signed with Alcorn State, outfielder Brooklynn Montana and pitcher/first baseman Jayden Sawyer are going to William Carey University and catcher/designated player Kaleigh Steverson and infielder Emma Moore signed with Belhaven University.
Makynlie Jones was named NFCA Division II and MACCC Player of the Year in 2025 after batting .445 with 26 home runs and 103 RBIs. She added 19 doubles and three triples. She also had 35 multi-hit and 30 multi-RBI games. A Vardaman High School product, Jones was also named First Team All-MACCC, NFCA All-South Region and NJCAA All-Region 23.
Fontenot, who prepped at St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette, La., had a .340 career batting average with 15 home runs, 52 RBIs, 16 doubles and three triples.
Lindsey, who is from Harrison Central, batted .273 during her two years at Jones with 14 runs scored.
Montana, who prepped at Gulfport High School, batted .283 in her career with 15 home runs (13 as a freshman), 17 doubles, a triple, scored 71 runs and had 26 stolen bases.
Sawyer enjoyed a stellar career at Jones. She set a single season school record with 29 home runs as a freshman and finished with 45 career home runs. She batted .412 as a freshman and had a .361 career average. She had 75 RBIs as a freshman and ended up with 126 runs driven in. She had a 1.013 slugging percentage as a freshman and finished with an .804 percentage.
As a pitcher, Sawyer was 30-9 in her two years at Jones. In 264.2 innings pitched, she allowed 193 hits, walked 123 and struck out 346. She had a 3.37 career ERA.
Sawyer was named NJCAA All-Region 23 and an NJCAA Third Team All-American as a sophomore and was named Most Outstanding Pitcher in the NJCAA Division II World Series. As a freshman, she was NJCAA Division II First Team All-American as a pitcher. She was also NFCA First Team All-American, NFCA All-South Region, All-MACCC and NJCAA All-Region 23.
Steverson, who prepped at Germantown, had a .307 career batting average (.325 as a sophomore), with nine home runs, 13 doubles and 45 RBIs.
Moore, who played at Hartfield Academy, batted .284 in her career with a home run, 12 doubles and 39 RBIs. As a freshman, she batted .301 and started all 52 games.
This grouped helped the Bobcats to a 52-10 record, a Region 23 championship and a runner-up finish in the NJCAA Division II World Series this season. Jones was 91-25 in the past two seasons with two Region 23 titles and two World Series appearances.
