Quitman High School seniors recently took a field trip to some local industries to learn more about the different jobs and what they do.
Career Coach Angela Hughes planned the field trip for graduating seniors who may or may not be planning on attending a college or trade school after graduation.
“The four industries that were part of the tour were Diversicare, Howard’s , Emergency Management, and Quitman Small Engines,” explained Hughes. “The students were able to explore, see, and gain valuable knowledge of careers from each place of business as they toured the inside and learned that choices of careers can be very rewarding. Knowledge for the income outlook for a position at Diversicare was obtained. When touring Emergency Management on their third stop of the tour, they had a brief talk with the director about choosing a career and knowing the ‘why’ for it, which will help keep them focused on it to the point of obtaining their goal. They were allowed to explore inside the room for receiving an emergency call and the process of handling whatever emergency situation it is. They toured the inside of the Emergency Management trailer that is used for the road when they have to go out and assist other cities, towns, or states when they have disaster storms, tornadoes, or a major tragedy has happened. Afterwards, Emergency Management Director Toshia Evans provided the students with a small snack for coming. Their final stop was Quitman Small Engines. They gave them caps as an incentive for coming and stated that these students are our future.”
All the students who attended were able to get a better understanding of a variety of jobs and businesses and were equipped with the knowledge needed to help them make an educated decision for their future career path
