Congratulations to the Quitman High School Basketball team for an amazing season! They played their hearts out and came out as 3A State Runner-up.
“Wow! Year four has been a great ride,” stated Coach Kelvin “Smiley” Nixon. “What a season for the Quitman Panthers!”
The QHS Panthers finished the year 26–7 overall (10–0) in district play, Reg. Season and District Tournament Champions, and 3A State Runner-Up.
“I couldn’t be prouder of this group and what they accomplished together,” said Nixon. “Our senior leadership set the tone from day one. They showed what it means to compete, sacrifice, and represent Quitman the right way. I’ll leave this quick quote for you guys from Henry David Thoreau: ‘Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.’ Again, seniors go be great. Your impact on this program will never be forgotten.
I also want to thank our administrators for their constant support and belief in what we’re building, and a huge thank you to our fans and community who showed up and showed out all season long. Your energy mattered.
One of the most special moments for me as a coach was taking 27 kids to experience the Big House.
That alone meant the world to me, and it showed our players what’s possible.
But this is just the beginning of something special for Quitman basketball. We got a taste—now the expectation is to finish our season there every year.
To my coaching staff, thank you for the long hours, the preparation, the sacrifices, and the sleepless nights. None of this happens without you.
And to our fans, we appreciate you. Let’s bring that same energy into next season as we prepare for another run to the Big House.”
