“You have to hold yourself accountable, and you have to do the work. Don’t lose motivation even when things are hard.” Salutatorian Paisley Herrington has tried to live by her own advice, and she is now seeing the benefit and success of her endeavors.
When Paisley heard that she was the salutatorian, she was shaking and very surprised. She knew she would be in the top ten but did not realize that she was actually ranked second in her class. She was not only happy for herself, but also happy to know that her best friends were also in the top of the class.
While attending Quitman High School, Paisley has been involved in several clubs and activities. These include Health Occupations Students of America, Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America, and powerlifting. She got involved in these clubs and activities while maintaining focus on her classwork and grades.
Following graduation, Paisley plans to attend MCC and enter into the early childhood program and will then transfer to Mississippi State University to finish her degree.
Paisley credits her support system for contributing to her success. This system includes her family as well as her friends. Her mom and sister have helped her along the way with encouragement and motivation. In addition, having friends who had similar goals was a great support system because they helped hold her accountable for reaching academic goals and staying motivated at school.
Paisley is motivated by future success. She wants to live comfortably and happy with whatever she chooses to do as a career. Having stability in her future is a motivator for her. With the attitude and motivation that is instilled into Paisley, there is no doubt she has a bright future ahead of her.
