Randy Wayne Lucas, 72, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Lucas was born on January 23, 1953, to Marie and Howard Lucas of Quitman, Mississippi. He is a 1972 graduate of Zach Huggins High School. Post graduation, he joined the United States Army National Guard and began his career as a brakeman/conductor for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in Jackson, Mississippi, where he worked for 18 years. Eventually, he moved on to the family logging business back home in Clarke County.
Randy concluded his career traveling on the Pipeline as a Purchasing Clerk for Latex Construction as a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
He married the love of his life, Chiquita Ann Boone, in 1973 and had two children, Jennifer and Neal. Randy was determined to provide for his family, with an unwavering and unrivaled work ethic that stayed with him his entire life. In his down time, he was often the life of the party and could embellish a story to make it more interesting! These attributes enabled him to make many friends throughout his life that he cherished greatly. With a raspy voice and tough exterior, he was surprisingly tender-hearted and caring, often helping others unsolicited. This was especially evident in the later years by helping raise his niece Virginia Ann and then further evident when his grandchildren came along; he was adored by his family.
Randy was a muscle car enthusiast. In the 80’s and 90’s, he often attended local drag races on weekends with his brother Larry and cousin Micheal who owned several race cars over the years. He was able to experience national events in Las Vegas and Indianapolis as well. He not only liked to watch fast cars, but he also liked to drive them too! He often chose his personal vehicles based on tow capacity or horsepower, and you would never, EVER, drive a four cylinder. Other hobbies he enjoyed were his knife collection and his infamous hat collection (likely fueled by his bald head).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Marie Lucas; his brother, Charles Lucas; his sister, Glenda Hutchison; his grandson, DuPrey Steppee; and his beloved Maltese, Chazz.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Chiquita Ann (Boone) Lucas of Quitman, Mississippi; children, Jennifer Randi Thomas, of Metairie, Louisiana, and Nealy Lester (Jodie) Lucas of Quitman, Mississippi; sister, Brenda Stubbs of Summerville, South Carolina; brothers, Scotty (Tammy) Lucas of Clarkdale, MS, Larry (Judy) Lucas of Quitman, Mississippi; brother-in-law, Leon Boone of Brandon, Mississippi; grandchildren, Kristyn Taylor Thomas, Tilley Jo Lucas, Karley Jolie Lucas, Camille Grace Blackburn; great grandchild, Heidie Klaire Steppee; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, July 29, from 5-7 p.m. at Wright’s Funeral Home in Quitman, Mississippi. Graveside service by Brother Jason Castle will take place at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Quitman on Wednesday July 30 at 11 a.m.
