Most of you have probably heard about the dynamic revival that is taking place at Asbury University in Kentucky. Some of you may have been around in the Charismatic movement of the early 1970s. I did not know until recently that Asbury was also the birthplace of that revival that swept across America, primarily in its colleges and universities.
I was at William Carey College at that time and we did have a tremendous renewed sense of spiritual revival that was beyond normal even for a Baptist college. While some main stream denominations may have been skeptical about the Christian coffee houses, exuberant worship, and a lot of people getting into “tongues,” through it, there were many who came to know Christ as Savior and many who were already saved that did get revived. It is my hope and prayer that the same results occur with the 2023 revival that has started at Asbury.
We desperately need spiritual revival. Our country will not turn around to greatness again through politicians, prices at the gas tank and grocery store, or even weekly Sunday School lessons. Our country will only get back on track when hearts and minds of its people (or at least enough of them) get back to God and letting Him be in charge.
Christen Limbaugh Bloom with Fox News put it this way. “The brokenness in our society is beyond repair on a strictly human level. We need God more than ever to intervene in ways only He can.” God can intervene in Clarke County just as He has at Asbury. I am already seeing that at my church where we have gone from 6-7 in a service to 22. I have seen Him heal friends who “might not make it” from an illness.
I think it is high time for us local folks to seek this same type of revival here.
