Matthew's Gospel presents Jesus Christ as the Messiah King. His approach centers on the Kingdom of God and our life as subjects of the King of Heaven. Naturally then, he begins with the values of the Kingdom in what we have referred to as the "Sermon on the Mount." It is more than a group of ethical teachings.
