Rocky’s House, a traveling exhibit from the Mississippi Children’s Museum, will be at the Quitman Public Library from June 19-July 10.
This traveling exhibit was designed to raise awareness that talking to and with children from birth is essential for literary success. It uses games, educational resources, and interactive play and will give caregivers opportunities to talk to children to their fullest extent.
The mascot for the exhibit is a dog, Rocky the Reader.
The centerpiece will be Rocky’s House where visitors are able to read a book, ask questions, and use puppets to make their own stories come alive. There is also Rocky’s Big Backyard with books for reading and play. It contains three components to foster the form of literacy and development mentioned in the title for the component: Play with Me, Talk with Me, and Read with Me.
There are plans for Rocky to attend and greet at the first meeting for the summer reading program in Quitman on July 5.
Come to Quitman Public Library from June 19-July 10 and take part in this amazing exhibit!
