Wayne Academy's Sam Cook signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Co-Lin Community College next school year. The W.A. senior said the decision was an easy one for him. "I really like the coach, I like the campus and I like the plan that the coach has put together for me," he said. "He has a plan to help me see the field as early as possible." A catcher for W.A., Cook will play that position and some first and third base once he dons the Wolves uniform. He said he knows what he needs to do in order to be prepared for the college level. "I just need to keep playing my game and not try to do too much," he said. "My strength is my defense in receiving and blocking behind the plate and my throwing. "The main thing I need to work on is staying within myself, especially at the plate. I need to take a calm approach." Before moving on to the next level, though, Cook said he and his teammates have some unfinished business during the 2023 season. "I want to bring a state title back to Waynesboro in May," he said. "We've won everything else but that, and this will be my last chance to win a state title in high school." Undecided on a major, Cook said he definitely wants to improve to the point where a four-year university will make an offer to him after this two years with the Wolves is complete. "I don't have a particular school in mind," he said. "I just want to be able to get another jersey after I finish up at Co-Lin."
