Sammye Nell McClinton Bonney, 89, of Clinton, MS, passed away peacefully in her home on March 15, 2025.
Sammye was born on January 15, 1936, to Samuel Whitfield McClinton, Jr. and Nell Hood McClinton in Quitman, MS.
She was a 1954 graduate of Quitman High School. Sammye was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Daniel Marston Bonney, and her brother, Hugh Whitfield McClinton.
Sammye was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Quitman, where she served in various roles for many years, including teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Women’s Missionary Union and ministry to the homebound. Sammye found her most impactful purpose through having a consistent and daily prayer life.
Sammye is survived by her daughters, Sammye Carolyn Bonney, Virginia Lee Bonney and Dana Bonney (David) Donald; grandchildren Catherine Donald (Todd) Montgomery, David McCaa Donald and Mallie Nell Donald; three great grandchildren, Henry, Sam and Bonney; and her sisters, Margaret McClinton (Robert) Evans and Susan McClinton (Joe) Daugherty.
A graveside service was held on Monday, March 17, at the Enterprise, MS Cemetery. Prior to the graveside service, the family received friends on the 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Wright’s Funeral Home, Quitman, MS.
Pall bearers were Joe Daugherty, Lane Daugherty, McCaa Donald, Keith Evans, Scott Evans, and Todd Montgomery. The honorary pall bearer was Robert Earl Evans.
