Mississippi State (2-0) visited the desert this past weekend and came away with an impressive 39-17 win over the Arizona Wildcats. Bulldog quarterback Will Rogers threw for 313 yards and four scores while the MSU defense came up with three interceptions. In all, ten different receivers caught passes with half of them racking up more than 30 yards. Wide receiver Caleb Ducking ended the game with a team-best seven receptions and two scores. Mississippi State opens up Southeastern Conference play this Saturday at 5 p.m. against LSU (1-1) on ESPN.
Ole Miss (2-0) dominated over Central Arkansas, winning as expected, 59-3. The Rebels played well in all facets of the game in scoring seven touchdowns on offense and forcing four turnovers on defense. Luke Altmyer led the Rebels for most of the first half before suffering an injury. He finished with 90 yards passing and two touchdowns as he was 6-of-13. Jaxson Dart entered late in the first half and was 10-of-15 for two scores and 182 yards. Up next, the Rebels hit the road as they visit the Peach State and take on Georgia Tech (1-1) at 2:30 pm. on ABC.
Southern Mississippi (0-2) traveled to the Sunshine State and fell to the Miami Hurricanes, 30-7. Will Hall started true freshman Zack Wilcke at quarterback as the Hernando native completed 16 of 27 passes for 207 yards in his college football debut. The Golden Eagles led most of the opening half before Miami scored with two minutes to play in the second quarter to go into the locker room with a 10-7 advantage. Up next, Southern Miss will host Northwestern State (0-2).
The Sun Belt Conference secured three major upsets this past weekend as Appalachian State, Marshall and Georgia Southern all won on the road and each was paid over $1 million for their efforts by their hosts. Appalachian limited No. 6 Texas A&M to only 38 offensive plays in stunning the Aggies, 17-14, in College Station. Marshall stunned the Fighting Irish, 26-21, in South Bend, and Georgia Southern surprised Nebraska, 45-42, which cost Cornhusker coach Scott Frost his job.
College Results
Jackson State (2-0) used a tremendous defensive effort and four field goals in downing Tennessee State, 16-3, in the Southern Heritage Classic. Up next, the Tigers will host Grambling State (1-1) at 1 p.m. Tulane blanked Alcorn, 52-0, and Mississippi Valley fell to Austin Peay, 41-0. The Braves (0-2) will travel to McNeese while Valley (0-2) will entertain Delta State. The Statesmen (2-0) outscored McKendree, 58-34, while Belhaven (2-0) rolled over Southwestern, 42-15, and will take this week off. Mississippi College (1-1) downed Keiser, 26-8, and will host North Greenville while Millsaps (1-1) downed McMurry, 27-13, and will host Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Jones ran past East Mississippi in a showdown in Ellisville as the Bobcats downed the Lions, 42-28. In other action, Holmes edged East Central, 41-37; Gulf Coast bombed Itawamba, 37-13; Pearl River defeated Northeast, 20-13; Co-Lin crushed Delta, 37-3; Northwest clipped Hinds, 31-28; and Coahoma rolled past Southwest, 28-15. This week two undefeated teams meet in Poplarville as Pearl River (2-0) welcomes Northwest (2-0). In other games, Jones (2-0) travels to Co-Lin (1-1), East Mississippi (1-1) hits the road to Holmes (1-1), Delta (0-2) hosts Coahoma (2-0), East Central (0-2) entertains Hinds (0-2), Southwest (1-1) treks down to Gulf Coast (1-1) and Northeast (1-1) goes to Itawamba (0-2).
First there was Stetson Bennett, and now another Jones College quarterback is shining at the next level. Quaterius Hawkins is now leading Grambling. Hawkins threw three touchdown passes of 83, 70 and 20 yards in the second period against Northwestern State this past Saturday.
