I wonder if every time of history has had the volume of people that we have now who despair over the way things are. Wokeism and head-shaking evil are more up in our faces now because of the extensive ways that it can come into our eyes and ears – word of mouth, radio, TV, the printed word, and all of the social media that is out there. Maybe more people do think that the sky is falling and that we cannot do anything about it.
I have always been amazed at how the Amish people and their related denominations have managed to live within changing times over the decades and continue to have the lifestyles that they started here with. I keep thinking – if they can do it, the rest of us could also. After the 2020 election, I took myself in that direction – I became semi-Amish. I could do this because I recognized that I did have choice.
I have a choice with Facebook. I do have an account that I use sometimes for non-social purposes such as with professional organizations or hobbies that I enjoy. But I don’t put my business out there and don’t waste time exploring other people’s business.
I have a cell phone which also serves as my home phone. I use it when I need to for conversations and I also use the weather app, the map app to go places I need directions on, and a few other handy apps. It is not a body part of a vital organ that must be on my person 24/7.
I use electricity, but I also have started canning instead of freezing food that I put up – just in case the Chinese and Russians nuke the grid. I also have explored the use of solar energy – just to consider at some point.
I could go on about how some choices that have helped me to unplug from letting the negative that I live in put me into despair and mess up a good life. You can too – it all boils down to choice that God gave us back in the Garden of Eden.
