Eighteen Clarke County 4-H members participated in the Southeast District Shooting Sports Competition at McHenry Shooting Facility in Wiggins on April 29 and 30. Members competed with 760 other 4-H'ers from 21 counties in Southeast Mississippi for gold, silver, and bronze medals. By recording a minimum qualifying score, senior aged 4-H members (ages 14-18) also became eligible to compete in the State 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational which will be held in Meridian July 8 and 9 . Christy King, Extension Agent with Mississippi State University Extension Service in Clarke County said, "The scores required to qualify for state are tough to attain. Many 4-H'ers never realize the dream of making that qualifying score and getting the opportunity to shoot in the state invitational." Eight of the ten senior aged 4-H'ers from Clarke County who competed in the district shoot qualified for the state invitational. "This speaks well of our shooting sports program in Clarke County," said Rene' Berry, Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer and Coach. Clarke County took home 14 first place gold medals, 4 second place silver medals, and 5 third place bronze medals. "We stood on the medal podium a lot at the district shoot. Our kids represented us well on and off the podium", said Kelly Busby, County 4-H Program Assistant and Certified 4-H Shooting Sports Coach. Results for the District Shooting Sports Competition are:
