Effective February 1, the Town of Stonewall will have a new provider for waste services.
After reviewing various bids, the town has signed a contract with Meridian Waste to collect all garbage for the town. They decided to change providers so that they could maintain the current garbage rate.
“We are required by law to bid out our contract every six years,” explained Stonewall Mayor Penny Walker. “Meridian Waste gave us a bid underbidding Waste Pro by $5 dollars a can, so our board voted to change to Meridian Waste.”
The good news for residents is that the only change they will notice is having a different trash bin and truck come by starting in February. All garbage fees will still be paid to the town with each water bill, and the garbage rate will remain the same.
Trash will still be collected every Wednesday, and they ask for carts to be placed at the road by 6:00 a.m. to ensure trash is collected.
Everything must be in bags and inside the cart. If it is common to have an overflow of trash each week, an extra bin is available for an additional fee. Just call Stonewall Town Hall at 601-659-7033 for information and request an additional bin if needed.
They will take off the following holidays throughout the year: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. If any of those holidays fall on or prior to the usually scheduled pickup day, then pickup will be delayed one day through the end of that week.
For the month of January, Waste Pro will still collect all garbage. Waste Pro’s last pick up day will be Wednesday, January 28, 2026. They will pick up all their bins that day. Please have all Waste Pro bins, both full and empty, by the road on January 28 so that they can collect them.
Meridian Waste will officially start collecting trash until Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
