Why are you running for office?
I love Stonewall and its people and would love to have the opportunity to see what I can do to improve our already wonderful little town.
What type of work experience do you have?
I have experience in city and county government and have connections that I believe will be an asset in addressing some of the concerns that I have heard from the people of Stonewall. I hold several degrees from Mississippi State Extension Service with a degree in municipal clerk and municipal court clerk and collector of revenue 1 and collector of revenue 2. I worked for the municipalities for over 20 years as a city and court clerk. I have also worked in the tax collector’s office for 11 years where I currently serve as bookkeeper.
What do you hope to accomplish if elected?
My desire is to listen to the needs and concerns of the people in our town and work closely with the board of aldermen, police department, and fire department to make our town safe and beautiful. I would like to bring in new businesses and would love to restore our parks and recreation area where we have somewhere to take our children to play and have picnics. I would like to explore the possibility of bringing a daycare in so our working parents can have somewhere close to home to leave their children when they go to work. I hope to work with Jones College and utilize the assets we have there. Hopefully, we can get the students there involved in our community, even if they do not live here.
From the perspective of the office you are seeking, what is the most important issue facing your municipality?
From what I have heard, people are most concerned about crime on our streets and dilapidated structures. I am hoping to accomplish a safer environment, assist in creating additional dining options, implement a ditch cleanout, assist in painting fire hydrants and replacing signs with new ones, and schedule some community activities throughout the town. The more we can do, the better. Hopefully, this will keep the taxes, water bills, and garbage bills at the minimum for all citizens in Stonewall.
What makes you a good candidate for this position?
I am the best candidate for mayor because I will work hard to help with the needs and concerns of the citizens. I have the connections to reach out to other municipalities to find options for getting things done by applying for grants to offset money spent without raising taxes and water rates.
