Name: Greg Mangum
Age: 36
What political office are you seeking?
Mayor for Town of Stonewall
What is your party affiliation?
Republican
Why are you running for office?
I’m seeking the office of Mayor so I can better serve the citizens of Stonewall and help to move our town forward.
What type of work experience do you have?
I have the following experience:
2017-2021 Stonewall Alderman
2022-Present Stonewall Alderman
2014 – Present Pastor of Old Paths Independent Baptist Church
2019 – Present Owner of Mangum Insurance Agency
2022 – Present Family Service Counselor at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes and Forest Lawn Memory Gardens
What do you hope to accomplish if elected?
If elected Mayor, I will work to promote beautification projects to clean up Stonewall, including looking into the clean up of abandoned properties. I will work to promote community development and growth. I will work to promote our town to potential business owners. I will work to secure grants to continue updating our infrastructure. I will continue to support our volunteer fire department as these men and women go into harm’s way to save lives and property. I will work to bring down the drugs and crime within the Town of Stonewall by implementing more patrolling of our streets.
From the perspective of the office you are seeking, what is the most important issue facing your municipality?
The most important issue facing the Town of Stonewall is growth. Stonewall’s population has dropped over 20% since the closing of Burlington in 2002. If we want to see community growth, we must work hard to curb the crime rate and drugs as well as work to improve the looks of our town.
What makes you a good candidate for this position?
I believe I am the most qualified for this position as I have served the citizens of Stonewall for seven years on the Board of Aldermen. I know the challenges facing our town. We have made vital upgrades to our aging water and sewer systems during that time. There is still, however, much left to do with improving our infrastructure. I also believe because of my being a business owner, I understand the things that business owners look for before deciding to locate in a town. I believe my leadership speaks for itself. For seven years, I’ve represented the citizens of Stonewall with honest, effective leadership by allowing my faith to guide my decisions. As a father, I want my son to grow up in a place he is proud to call home. Working together, we can accomplish the goal of building a safer and more resilient Stonewall.
