County Road department commended

The annual maintenance inspection of state aid road projects in Clarke County was recently completed with the county receiving a very satisfactory report.

The county road department was commended by the Office of State Aid Road Construction reporting that roadway surfaces were in very good condition.

Court dismisses Pearson case

A former candidate for sheriff filed charges against his political consultant for false pretense in Laurel Municipal Court; however a municipal judge in Laurel dismissed the case Monday afternoon stating there was no evidence to support Pearson’s claim.

Crime rate remains low

Last week the Clarion Ledger had an article that revealed the crime statistics for the State of Mississippi. Some of the stats were alarming and it was no surprise that Jackson statistics revealed 1,593 in violent crimes with 61 homicides reported.

Davis' appeal denied

The Mississippi Court of Appeals upheld the 2013 conviction of Keith Allen Davis in the 2012 June murder of Nathan Baker of Quitman.

Baker was murdered on County Road 618 in the Carmichael Community.
