Mississippi State won two of three games from Missouri over the weekend to lock up the fifth seed in this week’s SEC Tournament in Hoover. The Bulldogs (36-19, 17-13) will open on Tuesday against the 12th seeded Ole Miss Rebels. LSU swept the Rebels (27-28, 11-19) over the weekend.

Mystik Dan won the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby in a rare photo finish at Churchill Downs on Saturday in Louisville. The longshot winner, ridden by Brian Hernandez Jr., won by inches over Sierra Leone and Forever Young in the closest running of the roses race since 1947.

There is sad news to report this week as we lost another Mississippi Hall of Famer in Bob Tyler. Tyler, who died this past Sunday, was head coach at Mississippi State from 1973-79. He was an assistant coach at Ole Miss (‘68-‘70) and Alabama (‘71-‘72).
