The Board voted to authorize County Administrator Stephen Myrick to close out one or more certificate of deposits in the amount of $400K.
“Because of the current cash situation I am requesting authority in case we get in a bind,” said Myrick. The board approved the motion. Supervisor Paul Mosley said that usually the biggest tax monies come in January and February and then again during the August land tax sale. The Board also voted to transfer $172,645.87 from the General County Special Fund to the General County Fund.
Myrick stated that although it is not wise to cover normal operating expenses with non – recurring revenue, the request for authorization is only if needed and the board will really need to tighten the budget in the next fiscal year.
In other business, the board approved the hiring of Eric O’Neil and Justin Rawson as full time deputies with the sheriff’s department; and Ida Jean McCree, Viola Hopson and Mason Thompson as full time jailers.
• Approved the hiring of Edward Gordon with the road department to replace an employee who retired
• Received a budget request from the American Red Cross in the amount of $5,000 for the next fiscal year. Last year, the Red Cross provided over $7,000 in services to 65 families in Clarke County. No action was taken on that request
• Received a request from Rita McCarty for the Shubuta Recreational funds and Clarke County Little League of America. The total amount requested was $6,500.
A breakdown of those needs is: salary for field director: $1,250; concession stand building to replace roof $3,600; land lease $170; miscellaneous repairs $600 (electrical outlet on light pole) and Little League $900.
The board took no action and tabled this request for further discussion.
The board then held a public hearing for the closure of County Road 1151.
