The Board of Supervisors accepted a grant award for the purchase of four generators for Enterprise, Shubuta, Stonewall and Pachuta volunteer fire departments. The total cost of the generators will be $103,953 with the county’s portion $26,491.
The board also accepted a grant for the purchase of a siren warning system for the Town of Shubuta. The grant was applied through the county with the town of Shubuta to pay the portion of $6,970. The total cost of this warning siren system is $24,483.
Fire Coordinator Eddie Ivy presented a request on behalf of Rolling Creek Fire Department for the reimbursement of ½ the cost of placing insulation in the fire department. The total cost of insulation was $360 and the fire department was asking for ½ of the cost ($180) from the county. The board approved the allocation with the stipulation that fire departments need to make the request in the future prior to the work being done. Several board members stated that had no problem reimbursing the department but would prefer the request be made prior to any work being done on county owned buildings.
Ivy also updated the board that a tanker truck should be coming from the Miss. Forestry Commission within the month to be used by the Beaverdam Fire Department.
Ms. Pearline Bradley went before the board with concerns that services and resources that should be available to senior citizens through East Central Planning and Development are outdated and that the county needs to have a needs assessment conducted. Bradley felt that there were not sufficient resources for the amount of senior citizens in the county who need the services. The board expressed they would contact ECPDD and request an assessment.
The board discussed a request from E911 Coordinator Jackie Mathews on behalf of Enterprise Police Chief Joey Moulds to have a wrecker service from Lauderdale County be placed on the rotation list. The board expressed they would only use wrecker services from Clarke County and the two local ones were doing a sufficient job. The only exception to using an out of county wrecker service is the rare instance that more than two wreckers are needed at the same time and/or the reason for a wrecker is greater than what is offered through Scott’s Body Shop or Rolison’s Body Shop.
The board approved the hiring of Jacalyn Houston as a full time jailer with the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department
The board discussed options for the back-up of data for the county computer systems. The board agreed with a recommendation from county administrator Stephen Myrick to check with local internet technicians about the most economical, safety options for data backup systems.
In other action during the month of April;
The board approved the hiring of Stephen Myrick at a salary of $76,000 on a 60 day trial basis with a minimum of 30 hours per week.
