The board of supervisors approved allocating $20,000 to Stonewall VFD on the recommendation from District 1 and District 3 supervisors for the purchase of a rescue truck. The motion passed with all voting in favor of the allocation.
The board met with Chief Jerry Satcher and Joe Touchstone from Beaverdam Volunteer Fire Department. Chief Satcher went before the board stating that he felt like Beaverdam didn’t receive adequate assistance from the county. The board, along with Fire Coordinator Eddie Ivy, worked with Satcher to answer questions including the status of a truck that is unrepairable; donation money from a pipeline and the installation of fire plugs.
The board met with Boston Mutual again and agreed to allow the insurance representative to come back in August during open enrollment to discuss the possibility of offering the supplemental life insurance policy to county employees.
Buddy Dew addressed the board regarding the stop sign in the Rolling Creek area and stated the newly placed stop sign did not alleviate matters and that rumble strips and stripes are needed across the road before someone got hurt. Dew went before the board during the first meeting of April to discuss the dangerous intersection of County roads 344 and 345 where a stop sign was bolted down in the road between the two and created a dangerous situation. Road Manager Terry Starks said the road department would get that done at that intersection.
In other business the board;
approved a bid for milling for $23.50 per ton from Dunn Roadbuilders.
approved hiring Bennie Staten to serve as a bailiff for Justice Court.
Approved the annual allocation of $500 for the annual July fireworks show at Archusa Water Park
Discussed with Pat Harrison Waterway District Manager Doug Howell the need for a water line to be placed on County Road 375 to Dunn’s Falls
Approved At & T permits on County Roads 511 and 630 and a road bore for Pete’s Pumping and Well Service on County Road 630
