The Clarke County Board of Supervisors met Monday in their second regular meeting of November 2019.
Opened sealed bids for the sale of a used 2005 Caterpillar 953C Track Loader. Four bids were received.
1. Jeff Martin Auctioneers for $17,777
2. Puckett Machinery for $12,500
3. JJ Merchant for $27,892
4. Deanco Auctions for $12,199.
The highest bid from JJ Merchant of Purvis, MS, was approved.
Ron Holloway requested the use of the Multi Purpose Annex for a VFW cookout. President Darrick Marshall stated in the initial agreement when the annex was built, the VFW does not have to pay for use of the building.
Patricia Arrington requested use of the Courthouse Lawn on Sunday, January 19 from 5-7 for a MLK program. There will be a vigil/walk from Sumrall Park to the courthouse where they will host a program. All are invited to attend. This event was approved.
William Butler, representing the Clarke County Airport, requested funds to repair the airplane hangar door. Butler stated pilots are upset because they cannot get the doors open by themselves and it requires 3-4 people to open the doors. Supervisors tabled the request until the first of the year. Butler will also need to acquire two quotes. He already has one and will find another.
Darrick Marshall introduced and welcomed newly-elected supervisor of district 3 Joel Speed.
Other items approved include:
• Tom Henderson’s request for help from Melinda Jaynes of Data Systems to help with the closing out the end of year.
• A request to extend County Road 3541 about 150 foot. The request meets all requirements.
• Christmas employee luncheon to be held December 17
• for eight people to attend a debt set-off conference in Hattiesburg December 4, to include all supervisors, Attorney Greg Snowden, Tom Henderson and Joel Speed.
• To pay Ervin Mixon for projects he did for the county - $1300.
• to pay to send Sally Wedgeworth to training seminar Jan. 22-24.
• to advertise the move of the Harmony 1 voting precinct from My Meeting Place to the new building at Hwy. 18 and 45.
• to advertise for county interest/bank depositories
All supervisor meetings are open to the public. They are held the first and third Mondays at 9 a.m. in the board room.
