The Board of Supervisors voted Monday to approve a tax exemption to BTH; but was not happy about it. Board Attorney Greg Snowden advised the supervisors the exemption had to be granted because of an Inducement Agreement however, this exemption will not relieve the company from paying the required school taxes.
The board is unhappy with the recent layoffs that have taken place at BTH, and according to the supervisors, BTH is unhappy with the county value assessment of the new equipment which was valued at $45 million. Due process requires the Department of Revenue to certify the county tax assessment rolls, which is currently in the process, before an appeal can be filed by BTH disputing the assessment.
