The Board of Supervisors was approached by a local business owner about wrecker calls being sent outside of the county. Scott Dedwylder of Scott’s Body Works stated that several incidents occurred where a local deputy requested the dispatchers to call for wrecker services outside of the county. The board of supervisors discussed the issue in the past and passed a motion several years ago that local businesses within Clarke County should get first priority and be placed on a rotation schedule to respond to wrecks and accidents that occur within the county.
Dedwylder stated that his wrecker service is equipped and capable of responding to all wrecks and would like to know why those rotation calls are being overridden and response calls going to businesses outside the county.
Sheriff Todd Kemp addressed the issue and stated that he would handle it within his department and that wrecker calls should go first to the two businesses (Scott’s Body Works and Rolison’s) on a rotation schedule within Clarke County. The supervisors agreed that county businesses should get first priority unless owner requests otherwise.
The supervisors voted to approve the rehiring of all department heads in county government. The department heads are hired on a one year term at the will and pleasure of the board. Those departments are as follows: Road Manager, Terry Starks; Landfill Manager, Paul Shirley; EMA/Fire Coordinator, Eddie Ivy; Justice Court Clerk, Casey Bozeman; E911 Readdressing Nicole Haddox; Veterans Services, Ron Holloway; E911 Coordinator, Jackie Mathews; Purchasing Clerk, Suzanne Dennis and Greg Fairchild, Coroner.
The board tabled the decision to rehire public defenders Marcus Evans and Katherine McNair until further discussion with local attorneys and recommendations from local judges.
