The Clarke County Supervisors have added $5,000 to the reward for information leading to the conviction of the person/s responsible for the shooting of Chancery Judge Charles Smith March 16, 2020, outside the Lauderdale County Court House.
In March, Lauderdale County Supervisors initiated a $15,000 reward, the highest amount a county is allowed by state law. The money cannot be given to any Lauderdale or Clarke County employee or their immediate family members, according to the law.
Judge Smith was shot outside the Lauderdale Co. Courthouse from a distance with a high-powered rifle before entering for work. Smith has had multiple surgeries and continues to improve in a rehab facility. The investigation continues into the shooting.
