Local race car drivers were recently recognized for the 2016 NeSmith Dirt Lake Model Series in Dawsonville, Georgia at the annual awards banquet.
Top drivers in the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division, NeSmith Weekly Racing Series, NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division, Sunoco Young Guns Challenge, and the Chevrolet Performance Late Model Series were honored for their accomplishments during the 2016 racing season.
Local Crate Late Model Series driver, Scott Dedwylder (#33) finished second in the National Touring Series Points with a total of 1502 points.
Scott Dedwylder of Clarke County began his racing career in 1999. His racing crew consists of his dad and brother, Ronnie and Greg Dedwylder and Jody Simpson.
15 year old Spencer Hughes from Meridian was recognized as the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division National Champion. Hughes completed the season with a perfect 700 point score during the 27 week points season. He piled up 16 wins, 26 top 5’s and 28 top 10s in the 30 races he competed in. His twin sister, Ellie, has also been recognized for her hard work and dedication as well as her driving ability.
Spencer’s dad, Johnny, received the Chevrolet Performance Crew Chief of the Year honors for his help and guidance in preparing the #11 BJ’s Tire and Service Center Hughes Your Daddy Race Car driven by Spencer.
