The annual Mississippi Community College Legislative Appreciation Luncheon provides an opportunity for representatives from the states’ community colleges to meet with legislators informally, but it also provides a unique opportunity for students too. Students from each of the 15 community/junior colleges share their musical and culinary talents with the group while several students enjoy the role of hosts and hostesses at the legislative appreciation luncheon.
Ellisville’s Precious Graham, a freshman English major shared, “I was honored to be chosen to attend the appreciation luncheon. I enjoyed understanding, on a deeper level, what all our legislative representatives, community college presidents, and vice presidents do for our community and junior colleges. I am more grateful and aware of what goes on in our state.”
Dre'Anna Gates, a freshman elementary education major from Quitman said it reminded her of some activities she appreciated in high school. “I enjoyed getting to meet new people from a different college. It reminded me of high school BETA or FBLA convention. My favorite part was being able to enjoy all the talents around Mississippi.”
