Family members of Takarus Moore, 31 years old, of Shubuta discovered his body on the railroad tracks adjacent to the Quitman Junior High School Thursday afternoon.
Clarke County Dispatch received the 911 call a little before 5 p.m. Investigators along with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations responded to the scene where the body was discovered.
A missing person’s report had been filed on Moore after he had not been seen by family members following an incident that happened on Tuesday.
According to Sheriff Todd Kemp, on Tuesday afternoon around 2:30 p.m., one of his deputies attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Jamarcus Davis.
Davis was driving erratic on Highway 45 south passing two motor vehicles and an RV. The deputy turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle, which occurred on Thompson Avenue in Quitman. Two male subjects, Davis and Moore exited the vehicle and fled the scene. Other officers responded to back up the deputy and Davis was taken into custody where he remains in the Clarke County Jail.
Moore fled the scene and had not been seen since, according to Sheriff Kemp.
“We do not believe there was any foul play and do believe it could possibly be accidental death,” said Sheriff Todd Kemp at a Friday morning press conference. “
MBI is in the preliminary stages of this investigation. Moore’s body has been taken to Jackson where an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
