A public hearing will be held at the Quitman Depot Thursday, July 14th at 6 p.m. to discuss the City’s request for inclusion in the National Register the Downtown/Mill District. All business owners and interested citizens are encouraged to attend this hearing.
Securing this registration will allow property owners to register their properties on the national register and be able to use federal and state tax credits.
The Mississippi Department of Archives and History is considering a nomination at its Review Board meeting later in July.
In a recent letter to Quitman Mayor Eddie Fulton, MDAH stated the National Register provides recognition of a community’s historic resources and assures protective review of Federal projects that might adversely affect those historic properties.
Below is a map of the proposed district for inclusion in the National Register Downtown/Mill District.
If you have any questions concerning this, you can attend Thursday’s meeting at 6 p.m. at the Depot, or call Quitman City Hall at 601-776-3728.
